Last night I braved the minus temps all in the name of good music and new bands, seeing as the Brooklyn hipsters Friends were in town playing 2 venues I thought it would be rude not to go.. So off to XOYO I trotted with a little Greeno in tow. Admittedly I only know one of their songs, the only one that most of the crowd knew too: I'm his girl. So without any expectations I walked into the wild. To begin with I thought that the lead singer Sam's face pulling was a little self- indulgent, but as I carried on I actually enjoyed Sam’s seduction of the crowd. Sam ooze's sex appeal out of her top-knot and flirts amongst the London posse with a passion. The cute and dopey songs, were pretty easy to pretend that we knew them off by heart, inc slow jam (if you feel inclined to wind down now is the time). But it got a little ropey around the middle of the set with some dark shizz thrown in, testing our attention spans. A signature move, Sam is a fan of the ol’ shoulder facing, vogue look and she can't half hold her notes but it is the body language that does alot of the talking! Not shy of entering the crowd, the lead singer thrilled us with her presence, jumping in, dancing with us minxes, I even got a personal performance. God I wish I’d of had a pen after for a treasured autograph. The guitarist and backing vocalist Nikki looked the opposite to Sam: She looked like she’d rather be any where else except perform for us precious crowd who had risked death in the icy cold! The cover My Boo (Ghost town DJ's) is obvs an easy catchy number to please and bring back memories of yester year and dancing at your local Icon and Envy. If you need help with your five a day this band is your game: It’s a recurring party trick of theirs to throw blueberries into faces in the crowd, with a chance of a free gig ticket if you caught them in your mouth. Only the standing Drummer actually managed to catch one. Unfair advantage?
